3rd Annual Detroit Beer Week kicks off with TapDetroit at Fountain Bistro
Features 100% Michigan-made beer, 313ale
Thursday, October 13 – Sunday, October 23, 2011

(DETROIT, Mich.) – The tagline on the flyer for this year’s Detroit Beer Week says it all:
“This year, we turned it up to 11.” Only in Detroit can a week be stretched from seven to
eleven days.

Detroit Beer Week began in 2009, produced by Liquid Table, the beverage events and
consulting firm founded by drinks industry veteran Jon Piepenbrok. “We started it small
on purpose,” stated Jon Piepenbrok. “It’s still small, compared to other Beer Weeks like Philly
or San Diego, but those are huge efforts funded by distributors and large regional breweries.
This is me and a few close industry friends making a lot of noise without a lot of money.”

Now in its third year, Detroit Beer Week has shown true organic growth, featuring more
events at more locations throughout the city and beyond. The immediate suburbs are
included this year as well, in addition to events featuring non-Michigan breweries.
Compared to the first year, which featured thirteen events at thirteen locations, this year,
one location alone is featuring a dozen events, and over three dozen locations are scheduled to
be featured throughout the week.

This year’s Detroit Beer Week kicks off with TapDetroit, held at Fountain Bistro (www.fountainbistro.com) in Campus Martius Park,
featuring a ceremonial keg tapping of the official beer of Detroit Beer Week, 313ale. “It made perfect sense for us to be involved,” stated
Jay Lambrecht, owner of Fountain Bistro. “Not only do we take pride in our city, we also strive to feature local ingredients and craft beers.
Our restaurant is located in the geographical center of the city. Our patio features a plaque marking the Point of Origin of the City of
Detroit. We will be tapping the first keg of 313ale at the Point of Origin at 5:01pm on October 13.”

Why such a specific time? Detroit was founded in the year 1701. 5:01pm is 17:01 Military Time. The keg will be tapped at the Point of
Origin of the City of Detroit. This event will literally be a Tapping of Detroit.

The Official Beer of Detroit Beer Week, 313ale, is a collaboration brewed by the Detroit Beer Barons, a clandestine group of professional
brewers residing in the Metro-Detroit area. It is an American Wheat / Extra Pale / Saison hybrid ale featuring wet hops from St Clair
Shores, Michigan wheat and Michigan Spelt. It is the first commercially brewed beer to feature only ingredients grown and malted in
Michigan.

TapDetroit will also feature entertainment, in addition to a craft cocktail bar, featuring handcrafted cocktails prepared with local
ingredients and locally-produced artisan spirits. A portion of the proceeds of the event will benefit Pints for Prostates, a national
organization dedicated to funding awareness and research of prostate cancer. More information can be found at
www.pintsforprostates.org.

The week continues with a multitude of craft beer events at dozens of participating Beer Destinations throughout the Metro-Detroit Area.
In addition, Liquid Table will be hosting Signature Events throughout the week at such noted destinations as Jacoby’s, Motor City Wine,
Nancy Whiskey’s, Slows Bar BQ, Grand Trunk Pub and more. An updated list of events and locations can be found online at www.
detbeerweek.com or in print in the October 12 issue of the Metrotimes. Regular updates will be posted to
www.facebook.com/detroitbeerweek.

Detroit Beer Week culminates with the 3rd Annual Detroit Fall Beer Festival (formerly Detroit Harvest Beer Festival) on Saturday,
October 22, at Eastern Market. It is one of four annual festivals sponsored by the Michigan Brewers Guild. More than 50 Michigan craft
breweries will gather to offer over 200 different craft beers for sampling. Following the festival, Atwater Block Brewery will host an after-
party, featuring food and beer specials, as well as appearances from many Michigan brewers. The brewery will be open to the public from
6pm until 2am. More information will be posted at
www.atwaterbeer.com.
