| There were some long lines, but when there are brewers like Dark Horse and Three Floyds in town, there's bound to be. |
| Who says girls don't like good beer? |
| Inside the Education tent, Chocolatier Gail Ambrosius and Fred Bueltmann of New Holland Brewing teach us about pairing beer with chocolate. |

You'd be hard-pressed to find a friendlier, finer group of folks than the 5,000-or-so beer lovers attending the Great Taste of the Midwest in Madison, Wisconsin. The Taste is all about trying new things, and for most festival-goers, that means meeting new people, too. Beer buffs come from all over the country to try brews--and meet people--they wouldn't find at home. Strangers plop down next to each other to share a patch of shady grass and compare notes on what brews they've liked so far. The festival sits on the green hillside of Olin-Turville Park next to beautiful Lake Monona, and somehow the water view, sun, and summer air make the beer taste even better. Several huge tents house booths for nearly 150 Midwestern microbreweries and brew pubs, all offering three-ounce pours of their finest creations. When the $35 tickets go on sale a couple of months before the early-August festival, they're snapped up in hours, not days. Many fest-goers have a tough time deciding what's better---that first moment a new, delicious brew hits the tongue, or the pleased look on the brewers' faces when they see someone enjoying their hard work. What might be best, though, is being surrounding by like-minded folks--those who know a good brew when they see, and taste one. |
